Butuan City, Philippines — September 27, 2024 The Capitol in Butuan City was transformed into a lively and colorful gathering as PECIT hosted its much-anticipated Acquaintance Party, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a celebration of unity, leadership, and community spirit. This annual event marked the beginning of a new academic year, fostering camaraderie and introducing the institution’s new student leaders. The program opened with a solemn prayer, encouraging attendees to reflect on the importance of community and remembrance. This was followed by the national anthem, which stirred feelings of patriotism and solidarity. The Kantaw Chorale then delivered a stirring performance of the PECIT Hymn, showcasing the core values of the institution and setting an emotional tone for the evening. Director for Academic Affairs, Romeo O. Approvechar, delivered an uplifting opening message emphasizing the importance of balancing academic pursuits with social engagement. “Study and socialization are vital for success,” he said, encouraging students to build lasting friendships and actively participate in school activities. “Let us prove to ourselves that we are a family,” he added, inspiring unity among the attendees. IMELDA MAR, BUTUAN CITY – “Journalism is the first rough draft of history,” a famous quote by Philip Graham, served as the guiding principle for the Orientation on Journalism and Action Research Writing held at Imelda Mar Elementary School on November 14, 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with The WATCHGUILD Publication of PECIT, aimed to equip students and educators with fundamental skills in news and feature writing, article development, graphic design, editorial management, and action research methodologies. Leading the sessions was Editor-in-Chief Arnel Capenianes, alongside Managing Editor Marjezza Norberte and staff members Keith Johnson, John Lenuel Lubon, and Mane Talibong. Their expertise in campus journalism provided attendees with hands-on training in storytelling, responsible reporting, and the visual aspects of publication design. Adding an academic perspective, Dr. Josephine U. Acha, PhD, Research Director and Extension Services Head, highlighted the critical role of research in journalism and its impact on education. The festival, rooted in the Santo Niño fiesta celebration in Barangay Libertad, spotlighted street dancing that vividly depicted tribal life in Agusan Del Norte. The diverse participation in the street dancing parade competition, spanning religious groups, organizations, schools, businesses, and fraternities, underscored the unity of the community in celebrating their shared cultural identity.
