The participation of PECIT Sayawang Teatro in the Mini Kahimunan Festival on January 12, 2024, marked a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and faith in Butuan City. Led by Mr. Mark Hingko, the SSG Adviser and coach, along with choreographer Giovani Plaza, the former PECIT student, the group showcased their exceptional dancing skills, contributing to the festival’s dynamic atmosphere.
The festival, rooted in the Santo Niño fiesta celebration in Barangay Libertad, spotlighted street dancing that vividly depicted tribal life in Agusan Del Norte. The diverse participation in the street dancing parade competition, spanning religious groups, organizations, schools, businesses, and fraternities, underscored the unity of the community in celebrating their shared cultural identity.
PECIT Sayawang Teatro’s involvement not only displayed their artistic prowess but also highlighted the importance of mentorship and continuity, with Mr. Mark Hingko guiding the current generation and former students like Giovani Plaza contributing as choreographers. This intergenerational collaboration exemplifies the passing down of cultural traditions, ensuring their preservation and evolution.
The Mini Kahimunan Festival served as a platform for communities to come together, bridging gaps through the language of dance and cultural expression. PECIT Sayawang Teatro’s enthusiastic participation added a colorful and dynamic dimension to the festivities, leaving a lasting imprint on the celebration of Butuan City’s rich cultural heritage.
