The day commenced with the “SMART FUTURE: AI at the Crossroads of Possibility” Symposium, where industry experts and educators explored emerging trends in information systems, technology, and digital transformation. Dr. Christopher C. Abalorio, one of the keynote speakers, emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, stating, “AI is not merely a tool; it is a catalyst that challenges us to innovate, adapt, and redefine the boundaries of what is possible in the digital age.” Attendees engaged in insightful discussions on cybersecurity, AI, and data management, gaining valuable perspectives on the ever-evolving technological landscape. As the day progressed, the spirit of friendly competition came alive with the Mobile Legends tournament and basketball games. The e-sports competition saw teams demonstrate strategic skills and teamwork in the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game, while the basketball court became an arena of athleticism and sportsmanship. These activities not only showcased participants’ mental and physical agility but also fostered camaraderie and school spirit. As night fell, the Social Night transformed the venue into a dazzling celebration of unity and creativity. Led by PECIT President Engr. Romeo L. Zerrudo and supported by 11 dedicated staff members, the program aimed to uplift the spirits of 36 female Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). With the guidance of Acting Jail Warden SJO4 Florefe M. Badillo, essential items—including groceries worth ₱10,000 and toiletries valued at ₱8,000—were distributed, ensuring the PDLs felt remembered and cared for during the holiday season. Beyond material support, the initiative fostered warmth and human connection. Smiles and words of gratitude filled the room as the PDLs expressed appreciation for the generosity shown to them. More than receiving supplies, they were reassured that kindness and hope persist even in challenging circumstances.The event highlighted PECIT’s commitment to holistic education, which extends beyond academic excellence to social responsibility and community service. By engaging in outreach efforts, PECIT instills values of empathy, solidarity, and inclusivity among its students and staff. “This initiative is more than just a gift-giving event—it is a reminder that everyone deserves kindness, regardless of their circumstances,” said Engr. This annual event marked the beginning of a new academic year, fostering camaraderie and introducing the institution’s new student leaders. The program opened with a solemn prayer, encouraging attendees to reflect on the importance of community and remembrance. This was followed by the national anthem, which stirred feelings of patriotism and solidarity. The Kantaw Chorale then delivered a stirring performance of the PECIT Hymn, showcasing the core values of the institution and setting an emotional tone for the evening. Director for Academic Affairs, Romeo O. Approvechar, delivered an uplifting opening message emphasizing the importance of balancing academic pursuits with social engagement. “Study and socialization are vital for success,” he said, encouraging students to build lasting friendships and actively participate in school activities. “Let us prove to ourselves that we are a family,” he added, inspiring unity among the attendees. A key highlight of the event was the induction of the new Student Government (SSG) officers, led by Maria Cecilia Z. Matillano, Executive Vice-President. IMELDA MAR, BUTUAN CITY – “Journalism is the first rough draft of history,” a famous quote by Philip Graham, served as the guiding principle for the Orientation on Journalism and Action Research Writing held at Imelda Mar Elementary School on November 14, 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with The WATCHGUILD Publication of PECIT, aimed to equip students and educators with fundamental skills in news and feature writing, article development, graphic design, editorial management, and action research methodologies. Leading the sessions was Editor-in-Chief Arnel Capenianes, alongside Managing Editor Marjezza Norberte and staff members Keith Johnson, John Lenuel Lubon, and Mane Talibong. Their expertise in campus journalism provided attendees with hands-on training in storytelling, responsible reporting, and the visual aspects of publication design. Adding an academic perspective, Dr. Josephine U. Acha, PhD, Research Director and Extension Services Head, highlighted the critical role of research in journalism and its impact on education. Throughout the program, participants explored the ethics of reporting, investigative techniques, data-driven storytelling, and research integration in journalistic work.
